I’ve tried plenty of different apps, programs, and systems to stay productive. There is one app in particular which is working great for me right now and it’s called “Dispatch“. I like it because it “dispatches” my email as a task on my choice task app called “Things” (among many other features this app has that I will get into at another time) . So I’m covered when it comes to capturing items for my “To Do” list.
The thing that really helps me on a daily basis however is a simple little hack I tried in my office involving a clear document holder and a document I made in an iWork app, Pages.
The way I figure, if you can accomplish 5 tasks in a given day, you can call it a win.
In my job, I get interrupted often. Which is OK. I’m a Pastor; I’m supposed to be interruptible. So at the end of the day, if I was able to knock out 5 things on my list, I feel like I’m on top of the world! So here’s what I do. I made this simple sheet marked “Things to Accomplish Today”. It looks like this:
Once I printed it out, I slipped it in one of those clear plastic document holders. I then took the top 5 things I needed to accomplish that day and stuck it on the display with post its. When the task is done, the post it is ripped off and thrown away. That added tactile action of ripping off the post it and tossing it in the trash gives me another sense of accomplishment… a win. By the end of the day if the board is clear, even better! If not, then it’ll be waiting for me tomorrow and a few more post its will be added. So at the start of each day, my board looks like this:
So there you have it. If you’re interested in using this productivity hack, I’ll be glad to provide it for you. Download the PDF by click the link at the end of the post. Please let me know how it’s working for you!
