The King of Kong

Billy Mitchell is the best at Donkey Kong again.

Mitchell reclaimed the throne at the International Video Game Hall of FameVideo Game Hall of Fame’s inaugural event. He deposed the then-champion Hank Chien by 1,100 points. Mitchell racked up 1,062,800 in his quest for the throne.

Mitchell was part of the documentary “The King of Kong” that chronicles his feud with fellow “Kong” player Steve WiebeSteve Wiebe. (If you’ve not seen the film, it’s one to add to your Netflix queue immediately!)

The King of Kong is one of my favorite documentaries of all time!  Definite worth a rental by anybody whether you’re a video game fan or not.

Best “Lost” Promo. Ever.

I’ve been a fan of Lost since the very beginning. Back when I thought the smoke monster was a dinosaur and I thought the island was actually a “Purgatory” type place.

Most endings of Lost cause me to shake my head and wonder what in the world is going on, but I always come back for more.

The latest episode, “Everybody Loves Hugo” was awesome but what got me the most was the promo afterward. They played the creepiest promo ever featuring that disturbing Willy Wonka scene in the tunnel.

Check it out:

If you want to see the original Willy Wonka scene, it’s below along with the lyrics.

Willy Wonka [singsongy]:

There’s no earthly way of knowing
Which direction we are going
There’s no knowing where we’re rowing
Or which way the river’s flowing
Is it raining?
Is it snowing?
Is a hurricane a-blowing?

[apprehensive, now spoken]

Not a speck of light is showing
So the danger must be growing
Are the fires of hell a-glowing?
Is the grisly reaper mowing?
Yes! The danger must be growing!

[yelling]

For the rowers keep on rowing
And they’re certainly not showing
Any signs that they are slowing!

[screams]

I love Lost! I’m glad to see it end though, I don’t think my brain can take much more. Oh, and this summer Tina and I will be watching the whole series from the start again!

Thanks to Sci-Fi Wire for the links to the videos and lyrics!

These Are Not the Kicks You’re Looking For.

Adidas is releasing the Imperial Stormtrooper Sneakers.

Yup, these are for adults.  I’m a huge Star Wars fan, but this… is a little much.  I hope these shoes help you run fast, because the people chasing you might beat you up for wearing them.

Spider-Man Arrested! J. Jonah Jameson Was Right!

[via Sci-Fi Wire]

Turns out that the only person with less luck than Spider-Man … is the poor Spider-Man impersonator.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Christopher Loomis was working Hollywood Boulevard in his Spidey suit, collecting tips from tourists by posing for pictures, when he allegedly slugged a man in the face and arms.

Once the victim refused to press charges, you’d think that would be the end of it, but Loomis was arrested when the police discovered he had outstanding misdemeanor warrants and held him in lieu of $5,500 bail.

And it turns out that it wasn’t so easy for the LAPD to find the alleged assailant, even though he was dressed in the bright red-and-blue costume. But when officers responded to a radio call reporting a battery by Spider-Man, they discovered four different people dressed as Spidey along the tourist-filled corridor that includes Grauman’s Chinese Theatre.

By the way, if you are interested in digging deeper into the world of these costumed “entertainers”, you should check out Confessions of a Superhero.  It’s a great documentary that covers the lives of the people behind the costumes at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre.

I checked it out on Netflix’s “Watch Instantly” feature and apparently this whole getting arrested thing happens pretty often for Superheroes there.

Clash of the Titans: The Remake Trailer

I LOVED the original Clash of the Titans as a kid. Harry Hamlin, Burgess Meredith, Laurence Olivier, and a mechanical Owl.

Well, now they are remaking Clash of the Titans.  I’m going to reserve judgement until I see the movie, but to be honest I’d be really into it if they just re-released the original in the theatres. (Why don’t they do that?  It seems like it would be cheaper than remakes)

Anyway, here’s the teaser trailer for the new movie, and for fun here’s the original too! What do you think?
